Wau’s water supply network system has run dry for the last two weeks because Jur River’s level dropped due to a prolonged dry season.
Romano Ucu Lual, director general in the ministry of physical infrastructure and Water Corporation, told Voice of Hope that the water level at the river is so low that the pumps are not able to force any water into the tanks that supply the city.Mr Ucu told Wau residents that Jur’s stagnant waters are not safe for human consumption.
He asked the population to be patient, because the problem of water can be solved when rains come in abundance within one month or less.
Wau’s water situation is quite worrying as most wells get lower and cart water sellers double prices.
River Jur is a seasonal river and Wau’s main water supply.
