Hundreds of Zain and MTN subscribers are struggling in Juba to change from Sudan to South Sudan country code SIM cards.

Telecommunications Deputy Minister Beatrice Khamisa Wani gave the mobile operators Zain, MTN and Sudani two weeks to separate their networks from Sudan and block some 150 thousand subscrivers who have not swapped the +249 SIM cards for +211.

Bakhita Radio visited Zain and MTN offices this morning in Juba and recorded massive complains from subscribers who were in the offices waiting to change their SIM cards.

Ajina Wang said the process was not accurate because officials at the Zain office were unable to change her +249 SIM card to +211.

A person who asked to be unnamed said he was worried about the dateline to shift to the new country code.

He explained that Zain offices are under rehabilitation and the changing process was done by the roadside under the rain.

Oyai Kim said while he was at the office no SIM cards were changed.

He added that the changing process was not professional.

MTN subscriber Omar Jumbo said the computer system was used to re-activate blocked SIM cards changing automatically to South Sudan’s country code.
