The head of the ECS, the Episcopal Church of Sudan, launched an appeal on Monday on the prevailing situation between South Sudan and Sudan and urged the presidents of both countries to pursue peace in spite of the challenges they face.

Archbishop Daniel Deng Bul Yak wrote that he was deeply concerned that the conflict between the leadership of the two countries escalated close to full blown war.

He lamented that African Union High Level Panel has failed to note the escalation.

Archbishop Deng urged presidents Salva Kiir Mayardit and Omar Al Bashir not to lose the great amount of goodwill from their peoples shown during the process that led to the independence of South Sudan.

He called on both presidents to allow the international community to build a strong bond between the people of the two Sudans.

Archbishop Deng urged the international community to ensure that all outstanding issues are amicably resolved, including border demarcation, Abyei, Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile.

The head of the Anglican Church in the Sudans appealed to the people of both countries to refuse to be incited to return to war by their respective leaderships.
