UDF, the United Democratic Front, announced that it will register as a national political party after the revision of its Constitution.
UDF chairperson Phillip Yona Jambe thanked the party members for their good response during a three-day workshop to review the party’s Constitution in line with the new political reality in South Sudan, Bakhita Radio reported. He asked supporters to be prepared to mobilize and register members in order to meet the requirement of the Political Parties Act.
Mr Yona said the review workshop was a good occasion for the party members to know one another and hold very interesting political discussions with the International Republican Institute’s help.
He reminded UDP members that the Political Party Act does not allow parties to receive financial support from abroad.
Mr Yona asked the party members to mobilize for fundraising.
He said the law was unfair by forbidding international economic assistance, because the SPLM and other parties have other means to finance themselves.
Mr Yona asked the UDF members to read the document reviewing the way the party worked and the guidelines for the future to correct past mistakes and strengthen the party.
He said in the past the UDF leadership did not coordinate with the party at states level and it was its biggest weakness.
