Sudan’s war planes this morning bombed Rubkona in Unity State and killed two people and injured another six just three days after South Sudan bowed down to international pressure and withdrew its forces from oil-rich Panthou-Higlig contested area.
The planes were trying to knock down a key bridge just outside Rubkona, near Bentiu, but at least bomb hit the local market.Boniface Taban, a journalist reporting from Bentiu, told CRN over the phone that three Mig 29 fighters bombed Rubkona at about 8:30 in the morning.
Mr Taban said people in Rubkona and Bentiu are very fearful that Sudan is going back to war after it violated the call of the international community to stop cross border hostilities.
He added that they fear that the Sudanese war machine keeps targeting civilians.
South Sudan withdrew its forces from Panthou-Higlig on Friday in a bid to deescalate the conflict but Sudan used the lull to intensify its attacks first in Tashwin and now in Rubkona, outside Bentiu.
