The SPLM Deputy Secretary General repeated South Sudan’s commitment to resolving the current conflict with Sudan through continued peace talks.

The call comes a day after renewed clashes between SPLA and the Sudan’s forces at the border following South Sudan’s withdrawal from the contested oil-rich Panthou-Higlig area captured earlier in the month.

Anne Itto told the press in Juba today that her Government will engage Sudan peacefully or militarily if Khartoum insists on waging war.

She called on South Sudanese to focus more on building their nation and pave the way for a better future for their children.

South Sudan started pulling out its troops from Heglig Friday following requests by the UN Security Council and appeals from world organisations and leaders, although Sudan claims it liberated the area by force.

Dr Itto said South Sudan respects the international community’s request to return to the negotiations table, because international partners have always supported South Sudan.

She added that South Sudan will be vigilant about Sudan’s military moves.

Hilde Johnson, head of the United Nation Mission in South Sudan, condemned in a press release the continued aerial bombing of Bentiu in Unity state.
