The Government of South Sudan has said today in a statement that it is not at war with the Republic of Sudan and considers it as a friendly country.
Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin read the statement to the press.He said the Sudanese National Assembly’s decision to declare South Sudan as enemy state was unfortunate and amounted to a war declaration.
Dr Marial said the Republic of South Sudan is neither in the state of war nor interested in war with Sudan.
The Government spokesperson said the SPLA was in Panthou or Higlig to put an end to repeated attacks by Sudan Armed Forces against the army’s positions inside South Sudan.
He said South Sudan is not at war: it is defending the civilian population and the territorial integrity from any Khartoum invasion.
Dr Marial added that South Sudan is committed to peaceful relations with the Sudan and reiterated the principles of two viable states living side by side in mutual security and respect.
