Acholi and Ma’di communities from Magwi County of Eastern Equatoria state are holding a peace conference in Torit in a bid to settle land disputes.
Catholic Bishop of Torit Johnson Akio Mutek, during the opening prayer, asked the two communities to accept reconciliation and forgiveness of past incidences for peaceful co-existence, Radio Emmanuel reported. He called for calm and sober talks leading to a fruitful outcome.
Eastern Equatoria Governor Louis Lobong Lojore urged the two communities to use the peace conference to go back to the harmony they lived for decades.
He apologized for the violence of last October when several people lost their lives and much property was destroyed.
Mr Lobong says the state Government could have erred in delaying to respond to the event.
He apologized also for postponement of the peace talks between Acholi and Ma’di communities.
Mr Lobong asked the elders from the two communities to speak the truth freely and agree to reconcile.
