Raiders from Cueibet County in Lakes State yesterday attacked Tonj South cattle keepers leaving a number of people dead and wounded.

The raiders attacked around 10:30 AM and took a number of animals with them after a day-long battle that ended at 9:00 PM involving also organized forces’ elements.

County Commissioner Akec Tong Aleu told Radio Don Bosco that the area was attacked by raiders from Cueibet and a number of them was wounded or killed.

He declined to specify numbers due to lack of details.

On the Tonj South side, he said one person was killed and five injured, including one officer from the Fire Brigade and another from the Prison Services.

Ten cows were shot dead and six wounded.

Mr Tong urged the Government of Lakes State to control its people and prevent them from attacking neighboring communities.

He lamented that the Lakes State authorities do not have means to control cattle raids against Tonj South County.

The Commissioner urged Tonj South residents to remain calm since the police and other organized forces will take the lead to protect them and their cattle.
