An outbreak of measles killed nine children in Kimotong, Budi County of Eastern Equatoria state.
Caretaker minister of health Sam Felix Makuja broke the news to the press, Radio Emmanuel reported.He said a quick response surveillance team deployed from the ministry last week to the area to verify reports of strange deaths in the area discovered it was measles.
Mr Majuka said nine died out of 19 infected children but no new cases were reported.
He added that to control the spread of measles, infected children were confined to a health centre.
Mr Makuja said children infected with measles have skin rashes, high fever, difficult breathing and pneumonia.
Similar measles outbreak has also been reported in the neighbouring Ugandan districts.
