A tragic road accident on the Tonj-Rumbek road left 21 passengers dead and four others in serious condition.
The accident took place at the morning hours of Sunday, about 21 kilometers away from Tonj.One survivor told Radio Don Bosco that one of the drivers lost control, went to the wrong side of the road and hit another vehicle killing most of its passengers.
John Malith Makeny, who witnessed the accident, said the two Land cruisers collided head on.
Sixteen passengers died on the spot and another four passed away in Sabit Hospital in Tonj. One more died at Rumbek hospital.
Chief Inspector of Police Joseph Mayiei Aru confirmed that 21 people died in the accident.
He added that the dead will be taken to the clinic so that relatives can identify their people and take them for burial.
Tonj South County commissioner Akec Tong Aleu said he lamented the fatal road accident.
Both drivers are included among the dead.
Four passengers with serious injuries were admitted to Wau Hospital.
This year, accidents are increasing in Tonj. There were already four major car crashes and many small accidents involving motorbikes.
