The Murle community is demanding a state of their own to arrest the recycling inter-ethnic violence that involves also the Lou Nuer and Dinka Bor communities of Jonglei state.
Jodi Jonglei, a Member of Parliament representing Kumruk payam in Pibor and a security advisor in Jonglei, told Bakhita Radio that the only solution to stop the inter-communal clashes is to establish a separate state for the Murle and Anyuak communities.
He added that the new state would include all areas of Greater Pibor.
Mr Jodi explained that creating a new state would allow the government to be closer to the people and be able to control them.
He said the Murle and Anyuak communities are going through peace negotiations in an attempt to bring lasting peace and harmony in Greater Pibor.
Mr Jondi affirmed that Greater Pibor has sufficient population to qualify for a state, and oil, gold, wild life and cattle give economic sustainability.
He said cattle raiding activities would stop because intellectuals would be closer to their villages to control the activities of young people.
Jonglei state suffers from high inter-ethnic violence, a source of great concern to the UN and other international organizations.
