Trees cutting has severely intensifying in Nuba Mountais due to high demands for charcoal and bricks in the region.

The secretary of agriculture, Jamil M., condemned the illegal cutting of trees.

He urged forest conservation teams to take immediate action to stop tree cutting activities.

Mr Jamil said the trees are being cut down at an excessive and irresponsible rate.

The secretary said that trees are important for protection because people hide under trees during aerial attacks.

Mr Jamil urged people to replace the trees they are cutting.

Tree-cutting represents the basic economic livelihood for most people in Nuba Mountains since the war stopped several economic activities since last June.
