South Sudan and Sudan yesterday signed a security deal aimed to defuse tensions over oil issues that could spark a war between the two countries.
Former South African President Thabo Mbeki, who brokered agreement in Addis Ababa, said the deal was a non-aggression pact aimed at avoiding any armed conflict between South Sudan and Sudan.The non-aggression pact comes one week after President Omar al Bashir threatened South Sudan with war if the two governments did not reach an agreement on the oil issue.
Both sides agreed to respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and not to interfere in internal affairs.
