South Sudan Civil Society Alliance issued a statement today saying it stands with the government’s decision to stop oil production in South Sudan despite of some economic consequences. It added that Khartoum’s conditions to export South Sudan’s crude represented a significant economic humiliation.
The Alliance’s secretary general Biel Boutrus Biel read the statement to the press.
Asked by CRN if the Alliance was not concerned with problems the shortage of revenue can bring to the life of ordinary citizens, Mr Boutrus said the Government had to choose a lesser evil.
He added that Sudan was stealing South Sudan’s oil and killing its people.
He added that the shutdown decision should be maintained until a fair agreement was reached between the two governments.
Mr Boutrus said the capping of oil production is a fair decision despite of its economic consequences.
