The minister of Information said the oil shutdown operation has discovered a number of uncounted oil fields that have been supplying crude to Khartoum.

Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press this morning that the oil shutdown is complete and it allowed the authorities to discover the exact number of oil fields in Upper Nile and Unity State.

The Government spokesperson said the Dar blend oil fields are about 600 instead of the 300 or so reported and in Bentiu there are 271 oilfields although the companies said they were 230.

Dr Marial added that the council of ministers will convert itself on an economic cluster to implement the austerity measures within each ministry to compensate the loss of oil revenue.

Dr Marial said South Sudan signed a number of agreements including the construction of a pipeline with the government of Kenya and a refinery with a US company from Texas that takes six months to build.
