Members of the National Assembly condemned the stories media houses published on an incident between a journalist and security personnel.

On Monday, Mading Ngor, a journalist working for Bakhita Radio, was manhandled by security guards at the National Legislative Assembly after being asked to leave the premises.

Today the MPs spent the session debating the incident and its coverage by the media.

Joyce Kwaje, who chairs the Committee for Information, said that contrary to what was written, Mr Ngor told her he was not beaten but held by the security staff at the assembly.

Security Committee chairperson Aleu Aiyen said some individuals are conducting a campaign against the Legislative Assembly.

He requested the House to prepare some norms to regulate press coverage in parliamentary sessions.

Many MPs were particularly incensed by a column written by Nhial Bol in today’s The Citizen commenting on the incident.

They said they were socked when they read that they celebrated the beating of journalist Mading Ngor.

Some MPs called the committees for information and security to further investigate the matter and take Mr Bol and Mr Ngor to court.
