UNAMID, the UN-African Union peacekeeping mission in Darfur, is using sports to promote peace and development in the beleaguered region.
Last weekend, Al Taylia Sports Club celebrated 50 years of activities in El Fasher, North Darfur and UNAMID supported the golden jubilee celebrations under the theme “Together for Peace and Development in Darfur.”The week-long festivities included a carnival, a football match and a horse race, engaging various groups, mostly the youth, in positive peace-building activities.
Al Taylia Sports Club golden jubilee concluded with a music concert featuring renowned Sudanese jazz musician Sharhabeel Ahmed.
The concert, held at Al Zubeir stadium, attracted a crowd of around 5,000 people.
