The shutting down of oil wells is a wakeup call for people of South Sudan to see how much the government can work without crude money.

The Dean of the College of Community Studies and Rural Development Alfred Lokuji told CRN News that much of the oil money has gone to the hands of policy makers in the country.

He said the people of South Sudan need to wake up and see how the country fares without oil money.

Prof Lokuji added that he supported the decision but for selfish reasons he did not specify.

He said the capping of oil wells is actually a lose-lose situation for both South Sudan and the Sudan.

Prof Lokuji added that the idea of constructing a pipeline from the north of South Sudan through Eastern Equatoria passing through the land of hostile tribes in northern Kenya is not easy.

He said the project also faces many geographic and security challenges.
