The Speaker of Lakes State Legislative Assembly has condemned the brutal killing of a Ugandan businessman in Rumbek.

Henry Muchibe, aged 27, morning was shot several times by a drunken soldier in Rumbek on Wednesday.

Speaker John Marik Makur told Good News Radio that the State Assembly will seek to know from the relevant authorities why the armed soldier acted in that manner.

He said the incident gave a bad image of Lakes State.

Mr Marik urged foreigners to remain calm.

The speaker added that the law should take its course against the perpetrator of the crime.

Mr Marik apologised to the Ugandan community and to all foreigners for the unfortunate incident that implied a security lapse.

He assured foreigners residing in the state that South Sudanese are together with their East African brothers.

He said the mutual relationship between South Sudan and East Africa goes a long way.

The speaker called for quick redress of the crime by concerned authorities.

The accomplice, a SPLA soldier, is being held at Rumbek Central prison together with a colleague. Both were drunk at the moment of the crime.
