The secretary general for education in Nuba Mountains, South Kordofan, visited Kauda yesterday to discuss issues and challenges facing the sector and its future in the region.
Simon Kallo, who is at the office since August, said he started meeting education authorities and NGO partners to see all problems and challenges facing schools since the war started in June.Mr. Kallo said primary schools have no support from the government or NGOs and lack teachers and teaching materials.
He added that pupils face insecurity and aerial bombardments in the areas controlled by the SPLM-North.
Mr. Kallo added that despite of the war in South Kordofan the schools will open so that children get a good education and a good future.
He added that in the past children were learning while fighting was going on.
Mr. Kallo explained the meetings will also discuss the qualification of teachers who are going to teach in five Secondary Schools in the state.
Before the war teachers were coming from Kenya and Uganda. Now the education authorities are trying to recruit teachers within the community.
Mr. Kallo urged all the communities to be patient as they are working hard to resolve the issues of both secondary and primary schools in Nuba Mountains.
