Inmates at Wau Central Prison celebrated the birth of Christ last Friday. The feast was organized by the Comboni Sisters and gave the convicts the possibility of experiencing the joy that society lives as people celebrate the coming of Jesus Christ.

Brigadier Michael Bataku Arkangelo, who directs the prison, appreciated the support of the Church towards the growth of faith among the inmates and to give them a chance to keep connected with the society outside the prison, Radio Voice of Hope reported.

He pointed out that the prison was a place for rehabilitation where people are helped to become better citizens and not a dumping space.

Brigadier Bataku said that the institution is facing a number of challenges, including lack of water, due to a pumps’ break down, which caused a recent outbreak of skin diseases.

The director said the prison lacks offices.

He urged the residents to receive those who have finished their prison sentences and help them to restart a good life.

Brigadeer Bataku said he had high hope that the situation in the prison would improve because the Government is putting big efforts to help the institution.
