The Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Investment has called on petrol dealers to reduce their prices to go back to real market pricing.

Mary Gordon, Director General for Standard and Metrology in the ministry, said business people charge higher prices for petrol in South Sudan than in any other East African country, Bakhita Radio reported.

She revealed that a team of inspectors sent to Kenya and Uganda discovered that petrol prices in South Sudan are doubled.

Ms Gordon asked consumers to protest.

She called on petrol traders to reduce prices from six pounds to four per litre or face the law.

Ms Gordon affirmed that there is no reason for prices for food and fuel to keep rising since the dollar exchange rate has stabilized and the Government lowered taxes.

She warned dealers in petrol to abide by the warning and reduce prices of fuel to four pounds per litre.

Fuel and food prices have been raising across the country since the Khartoum Government shut down supply lines from the Sudan in May.
