A Comboni Missionary and two companions were freed last night after being seized by carjackers on Friday evening on their way from Khartoum to Masalma parish, in Omdurman, Sudan.
Dominic Eibu, a Comboni priest from Uganda who is vice-provincial and director of the Comboni College Primary section in Khartoum, was taken by unknown gunmen on Friday afternoon together with driver Francis Bol and Margareth Bol, the directress of Christian Religion Evening School.
Fr. Eibu was expected in Masalma by 6 PM and he phoned at around 4.30 confirming he was on his way but he never made it.
A Comboni source in Khartoum told CRN News over the phone this morning that the three kidnapped persons were freed last evening but the pickup vehicle was not returned.
It added that although the three were kept in chains on the soil for three days they were treated well and are in good health.
They were taken to hospital for a medical checkup.
The source said it is not clear who was behind the carjacking.
The pickup track, being used by Mrs. Bol, belonged to the Government of South Sudan.
Another source said Nuer militias are very active hijacking cars during these days in Khartoum.
