The remains of former deputy Prime Minister Samuel Aru Bol, exhumed in June from a grave in Sudan, were reburied today in Rumbek.
The late Aru Bol, who died in Khartoum ten years ago, served in various capacities in the government of Sudan between 1954 and 1999, Good News Radio reported.Eli Magok Manyol, Minister for Agriculture who chairs the organizing committee for Mr. Bol’s reburial ceremony said invitations have been extended to President Salva Kiir Mayardit and other officials.
He noted that when the prominent politician was buried in Khartoum, the majority of Lakes State residents did not get a chance to attend the ceremony, adding that the re-burial ceremony will present a chance for the public to welcome the late Aru Bol to his home town and accord his remains the well deserved final respect.
Samuel Aru Bol is remembered as the chairman of the 39-member Advisory Committee, that drafted the document which led to the Addis Ababa agreement of 1972 and later as a signatory to the Sudan Peace Agreement in 1997.
