An official from the Ministry of Health in Lakes State lauded a NGO working in the State for initiating a sensitization campaign on sanitation.
Deputy Director of Public Health, Environmental Health and Sanitation, Manoah Cep Abathau, said that sanitation is a vital challenge among communities in Lakes State noting that some people die without knowing the origin of the killer ailments, Good News Radio reported.He encouraged Diar for Rehabilitation and Development Association (DRDA), the organizers of the sanitation campaign, to go beyond schools and reach people in the villages with information on health matters.
Rumbek Girls primary School pupil Elizabeth Along advised community members to keep personal and house hygiene to lead healthy lives.
DRDA program Manager Ambrose Nyaga encouraged girls to embrace education, and complete school before they marry.
He said that his NGO has organized workshops on the importance of girl child education and on hygiene and sanitation in 21 schools in Rumbek East and Rumbek Central counties.
The health and sanitation promotion programme took place at Ager Gum Primary School in Rumbek for Parents and Teachers Associations (PTAs) from seven schools, members of hygiene clubs from various schools, and representatives from Save the Children.
