Nine newly recruited executive chiefs were sworn in yesterday at Wuanh-Alel Payam in Tonj South County of Warrap state.
Tonj South County chief inspector of police Lt. Colonel Joseph Mayiei told Radio Don Bosco that many people witnessed the swearing in ceremony and two bulls were slaughtered for the occasion. He said the executive chiefs took their oath of office over the Bible in the county judge’s presence.
The chiefs were empowered to rule the community and report criminals to police at boma level.
Mr. Mayiei said the new executive chiefs were told also to prepare for collecting taxes because taxation is going to start soon.
He explained that the chiefs were recruited after each of them presented names of more than five hundred people to lead.
Mr. Mayiei said the idea of recruiting many chiefs was to create more payams and bomas so that the county can split.
Tonj South County has now a total of 50 executive chiefs.
