A journalist working for an Arabic daily newspaper published in Juba received two hate e-mails from security personnel threatening to kill him.

The e-mails, signed by Akol Kiir Kwach and Pouk Kur, threaten to take Dengdit Ayok’s life, and that of his likes, as long as he stays in Juba.

Atem Simon, Almasiir’s editor in chief, told CRN News that the entire staff was shocked with the threat.

He said the e-mails indicate that South Sudan is heading into the wrong direction concerning freedom of expression.

Mr Simon urged the ministry of information to treat this case as top priority and settle it publicly.

He explained that one of the senders is well known to the newspaper staff and to Mr Ayok himself.

He added that the administration reported the death threat e-mails to the police and decided to make it public.

Mr Simon added that Almasiir staff is waiting that the authorities take the needed steps to solve the issue.
