Fuel costs have hit hard on Wau electric power station, which was turned off for an indefinite period of time.

The local Directorate for Electricity reported that Wau power plant has not been operational for about eight months due to lack of fuel and the management has no idea when the situation will change.

Director for Electricity at Wau power plant, Ernest Bol Acho, told Radio Voice of Hope that the facility has never received funds for operating the machines for almost two years.

He said the money the company makes from selling electricity does not cover operation costs.

Eng. Bol said the Wau power station was funded by the ministry of Energy and Mining in Juba but now it is supposed to get support from the new Ministry of Electricity and Dams.

He added that there is a long term plan for building a hydro-electric power station in Wau but it takes over two years.

Eng. Bol said Wau power station needs 1,800 barrels of diesel per month to operate.

He called on local consumers to be patient.

He added that when power comes back consumers should be ready to pay their electricity charges.
