Catholic groups and partners have met today to discuss plans to participate in next year’s constitutional process by organizing a workshop to ensure citizens are involved in the preparation of the permanent Constitution.
CRS South Sudan Governance and Peacebuilding Manager, Chris Wake, told CRN News that today’s meeting brought together Church groups, agencies and civil society groups to plan their participation in the constitutional process next year.He said Catholic partners and agencies are organizing a workshop aimed at ensuring public participation during the permanent constitutional process.
Mr Wake added that a group of lawyers from the Dennis Harley Peace Institute of South Africa will come to Juba to train church and civil society members on the constitution making process.
He said the training will draw lessons from other African countries.
It also designs a program that outlines how church and civil society groups can participate in the process.
South Sudan Transitional Constitution says that the National Constitutional Review Committee should be formed within six months after the independence.
It also calls for inclusivity, transparency and equitable participation of South Sudanese in the process of writing the permanent Constitution.
