South Sudan today launched a nationwide campaign that will last for ten years to boost road safety in order to reduce road accidents that kill and maim many people across the country.
Simon Majok, Deputy Minister for Roads and Bridges, declared the Road Safety Decade campaign open on behalf of President Salva Kiir Mayardit at a rally in Juba this morning.Minister for Transport Agnes Poni Lukudu said laws that govern road traffic are important because they prevent accidents and promote safety.
She explained that South Sudan’s traffic laws are ready and all drivers should abide by those regulations to reduce the number of people getting hurt or dying in accidents.
The launch started with a procession from All Saints’ Cathedral to John Garang’s Mausoleum.
