A second group of ministers and deputy ministers of the Government of South Sudan left today for Mombasa, in Kenya, to take part in a retreat organized and funded by the Government of Kenya.
A week ago, another group of ministers and deputy ministers led Vice President Riek Machar Teny were in Mombasa to share their experiences and learn new ways of governance from their Kenyan counterparts.In a press release, Dr. Machar appreciated the Government of Kenya in the persons of President Mwai Kibaki, Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Vice President Kalozo Musyoka for its dedication to help South Sudan’s Government.
Dr. Machar affirmed that discussions with the Government of Kenya would lead to more cooperation in knowledge transfer, technical assistance, economic cooperation and support in international organizations.
Kenyan Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka said his government is committed to provide support for the development of a transportation network that can connect East African countries through the new seaport of Lamu.
Hilde Johnson, who heads UNMISS, the UN Mission in South Sudan, expressed concern over peace building in the country.
Public service management and development, collective responsibility in government, managing government business, corruption and its impact on national development were among the topics discussed during the ministerial retreat.
