An official from the General Union of Drivers in Central Equatoria state denied that his office has increase the fares for public transport.

Oliver Jamal, General Secretary of the Union, told Bakhita Radio this afternoon that the drivers decided to increase the bus fares due to high fuel prices.

Mr. Jamal said petrol station owners deliberately decided to sell their fuel through black market to raise its price.

He added that his office cannot control the taxi fares because fuel is bought through the black market.

Mr. Jamal called upon the Mayor of Juba to consider arresting people selling fuel in the black market.

He said fuel should only be sold in the patrol stations and not in the black market.

Mr. Jamal called upon the citizens of Juba to remain patient till the fuel crisis is resolved.

Taxi fares remain at one pound but in some areas like Gumbo people are paying two pounds.

The number of minibuses in circulation was reduced from about 800 to almost 350. Most of them have stopped operation due to fuel crisis.
