Two returnees that arrived yesterday in Juba spoke about the many difficulties they faced on their way from Sudan to their homeland in South Sudan including a long wait in Kosti and too many checkpoints along the river.
Bakhita Radio caught up with Stephen Kenyi, one of the returnees from Central Equatoria. He said he was happy to arrive home after a series of challenges he faced in Kosti and on the way down.He complained that there are many checkpoints along the river, delaying the journey to Juba.
Mr. Kenyi called on the government to give a plot of land to every family for the returnees Santina Philip Tombe said she spent nearly three months in Kosti waiting for transport to come home.
She revealed that life in Kosti was difficult because there were scorpions, snakes and a lot of rain causing luggage to rot.
Mama Santina said one returnee was killed by a snakebite in Kosti .
She added that it may happen again because there were many poisonous snakes in the port.
She also complained about the delays caused by too many checkpoints along the river.
Over three thousand returnees arrived yesterday in Juba from the Sudan after an 18-day journey in a barge.
