The President of the Republic promised to improve the situation and standards of public universities and encouraged private institutions to rise.
Salva Kiir Mayardit made this promise while speaking this afternoon at Juba University during the independence celebrations organized by institution.The President admitted that the situation of public universities is appalling.
Mr. Kiir called for collective action in order to improve the situation.
He added that his government would improve the universities and their infrastructures to meet international standards.
Mr. Kiir reiterated that his government prioritized education, health, power generation and food security.
He said universities are the nucleus of national development and they need all attention possible from the government.
President Kiir did not mention when the University of Juba opens this academic year.
