Torit’s dreadful sanitation and poor hygiene worries the members of the state assembly that the health of the citizens is at serious risk.
Arungole Rino Loremo Locelele, who chairs the committee for agriculture, natural resources, environment and wildlife conservation and tourism, says the littering of Torit town with human waste is a health issue that puts residents at danger of contracting waterborne diseases like cholera, dysentery and typhoid.
The legislator made the comment while presenting a report of a provisional order on water, environment, sanitation and hygiene.
The move followed a motion moved by the minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Clement Laku Chichim, to the House to pass a provisional order on water, environment, sanitation and hygiene.
The Assembly committee chairperson urged the minister to prepare a Bill because implementation modalities do not qualify the provisional order into law.
Mr. Arungole recommended the House to pass a law forcing owners to dig a pit latrine in every plot and restricting contaminative activities in Kineti River.
