A government official is urging traders in Lakes State to facilitate the circulation of the new currency by retaining the Sudanese pounds they receive and taking the old money to the bank for exchange.

Pur Chiengan Dakbai is the Minister of Finance, Trade and Industry in Lakes State. In an interview with Good News Radio he appealed to traders not to give change to customers in the old currency, but use South Sudanese Pounds instead.

He expressed confidence in the ability of traders to control the circulation of the Sudanese Pounds.

Mr. Chiengan said the team involved in the exchange of the currencies in the State is in Greater Yirol since yesterday.

He added that the government is reaching out to those in the rural areas to ensure that South Sudan is free from Sudanese pounds.

He observed that the process of exchanging the currencies is slow.

Those having Sudanese Pounds in South Sudan have up to the end of this month to change their money to the new currency of South Sudanese Pounds.
