The government of the United Kingdom is willing to support the development of the Republic of South Sudan in most significant areas including health, education, construction of roads, water and sanitation.
British Ambassador to South Sudan Alastair McPhail said during a visit to Eastern Equatoria that the people of South Sudan should take the opportunity when the international community is ready to help them in building the new nation for a better future and for the children, Emmanuel Radio reported.He said observers did not expect a positive result from the Naivasha peace negotiations in Kenya – where he personally participated -, but surprisingly South Sudan has gained freedom in less than ten years.
Dr. McPhail said his visit to Torit was meant to get familiar with the rest of South Sudan outside Juba, share challenges of the new nation and witness the richness and diversity of the country.
Eastern Equatoria governor Louis Lobong Lojore expressed gratitude over Dr. McPhail’s visit saying it was a great honor as the two countries have shared a historic relationship.
He told the press they discussed issues of concern to the state with priority on security.
Dr. McPhail was the first high ranking international personality to visit Eastern Equatoria since South Sudan gained independence.
State ministers, government advisors, and faith leaders attended the meeting with the delegation led by the British ambassador to South Sudan.
