The Catholic Diocese of Rumbek has partnered with Oxfam GB to reach out to the needy displaced families in Wulu and Cueibet counties of Lakes State with non-food Items.
Peter Nato, the diocesan administrator, told Good News Radio that this week’s distribution was prepared with an assessment of the needs in the two counties of Wulu and Cueibet. The distribution of non-food items was carried out by the diocese since Tuesday.
Oxfam supplied the items and is supervising the distribution.
The exercise should conclude today.
Mr. Nato explained that people are being told while receiving the aid that development and self-sufficiency require peace.
Cecilia Kenyi, from Oxfam, was part of the team involved in supervising the distribution of non-food Items.
She said her organization has provided 1,200 pieces soap and 628 buckets together with plastic sheeting for the displaced people of Wulu and Cueibet counties.
Mr. Nato said that Wulu County has some 230 households with an average of five individuals each, while Cueibet has some 450 households.
He added that the people are appreciative of the items they are receiving although the clashes that displaced them took place five months ago.
World Food Program intervened immediately with the distribution of food.
Oxfam also assisted the returnees who had been stranded at Shambe port, near Yirol, for weeks with non-food items and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) facilitated the transportation of the various way stations in Lakes State.
