South Sudanese are worried about the exchanging period of their old currency into to the new South Sudanese Pound as the process is very slow.

The Central Bank of South Sudan launched the new currency on 18 July and gave 45 days for the conversion of old money into new South Sudanese Pounds.

Bakhita Radio caught up few of the money changers at Equity and Buffalo banks to get their reactions on the currency change process.

Momoi James, who was changing his money at Equity Bank, said he was enthusiastic about the new currency.

He admitted that there was huge overcrowding and he worried if he would ever change his old currency into the new in time.

He asked for an extension of the changing period.

Lazarous Kuai came from Lakes state to change his money. He said he came to Juba because there was no place to change his money back home.

He added that he was not even sure when he could change his old currency by new one because the queue was very long.

Peter Ladu is another man who came to change his money at Equity Bank. He said he was tired of waiting while standing.

He complained the officials at the bank were too slow and few and sometimes they tried to cheat giving less money than they should and blaming machines for the mistakes.

There is a big worry whether people in the rural areas will have their money changed into new South Sudanese pounds as communications are very limited.
