Students and staff of Loreto Girls Secondary School in Rumbek celebrated the Independence of South Sudan last Saturday with a dinner for representatives from religious communities of Holy Family Cathedral Parish and diocesan departments in attendance.

Students’ head prefect Veronica Adut explained that the death of Bishop Caesar Mazzolari delayed the celebration.

She said the dinner celebration was meant to welcome to the school the first year students.

A group of student presented a song composed in memory of Bishop Mazzolari by third and fourth year students and their teachers.

The four-line hymn sings the gift of Bishop Mazzolari together with millions of South Sudanese who sacrificed their lives to bring about peace.

Meanwhile, the School Principal, Orla Treacy, thanked all those who prepared the dinner.

The bull slaughtered for the celebration was donated by Lakes State High Committee for Independence Day celebration.
