An international nongovernmental organization for demining started a four-day workshop to train local teams in order to protect Nuba Mountains’ communities from the dangers of landmines and other unexploded war objects called UXOs.
An official, who asked to remain nameless, said the current war is spreading all over the Nuba area and his organization wants to protect the civilians from mines and other war items. He said unexploded objects were fund in the bushes of Heiban and Umm-Durain areas.
He added that the NGO is training people to identify unexploded bombs and other objects in order to avoid personal injury and alert the authorities.
He asked people to report immediately to the authorities the sighting of any unexploited object.
He told cattle raiders to report any blast caused by their cattle.
He urged them not to go to the stricken cattle but instead abandon the area and report the incident for the authorities to deploy demining teams.
The officer explained that some teams are moving from village to village to inform the communities about the dangers of mines and other unexploded items and the steps to take in case they find them.
