The leader of the opposition at the National Legislative Assembly has called for the adoption of a federal system of governance in the Republic of South Sudan.
SPLM-DC Onyoti Adigo Nyekwech was the main guest at yesterday’s Bakhita Radio Our Republic talk-shown. He said lack of real federalism was the main reason behind the secession of South Sudan.Mr. Adigo explained that the South had been calling for federalism since the beginning of its armed struggle.
He said South Sudan should accept federalism because it offers transparency, easy communication and empowerment of people.
Mr. Adigo rejected the current decentralization system of government enshrined in the Transitional Constitution, saying it leaves states with less authority.
The Interim Constitution gives more powers to the president, including the dismissal of elected governors and the dissolution of state assemblies.
