The Catholic Bishop of El Obeid, in Sudan, has called on Christians in Kenya to pray for peace in the Nuba Mountains, and urged the media to give more coverage to that volatile area in the Sudan.
Macram Max Gassis yesterday presided over a memorial service for late Bishop Caesar Mazzolari of Rumbek at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Nairobi, Kenya.Bishop Macram decried the violent and inhuman actions by the government of Sudan against the people of Nuba Mountains, revealing that civilians are killed, including children, women and the elderly.
He described the ongoing attacks in Nuba Mountains as ethnic cleansing.
He added Nuba Mountains are rich in natural resources that include oil, copper and gold.
Bishop Macram urged communities in Kenya to organize prayers for the people of Nuba Mountains.
He also encouraged the media to let the world know about the happenings there.
Bishop Macram made these statements in an interview to CISA, the Catholic Information Service for Africa.
