Humanitarian workers are giving only half of food rations so that they are able to feed the increasing number of internally displaced by the war in South Kordofan.

Aid consultant Khandi Khalil said that the number of IDPs has risen to 150,000 and the food supply they have in store is enough only for 70,000.

He added that the aid agencies decided to give only half of the food ration to every individual for everyone to get some food.

Mr. Khalil said the aid agencies are running out of stocks to assist IDPs.

He said they appealed to the international donors to supply drugs, food stuff, fuel and spare parts.

The international community has to act fast to avoid a very catastrophic humanitarian situation in South Kordofan, he added.

The UN has been denied access to parts of South Kordofan region and IDPs are being assisted mostly by non-governmental organizations.
