South Sudan needs a strengthened Audit Chamber if the new state wants to combat official corruption effectively.
This is the view of Lise Grande, the UN coordinator of humanitarian work in South Sudan.Ms. Grande said professional auditors are needed to evaluate the transactions made by members of the government.
She added that in order to stamp out corruption, South Sudan needs a strong auditor general with people with the necessary skill to do their job.
Ms. Grande said the UN is ready to assist South Sudan build the institutions that can fight corruption and prepare people to manage and run them.
The UN coordinator in South Sudan made these statements yesterday at the opening of a workshop organized by South Sudan Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Commission to prepare its five-year action plan.
