The Red Cross has stepped up efforts to assist returnees stranded in Malakal and Renk of Upper Nile state.

The South Sudan Red Cross sent this morning non-food relief items to aid returnees coming from the Sudan.

Marial Mayom, Red Cross public relations officer, told Bakhita Radio that his team is transporting non-food items by barge to Malakal and Renk for 4,500 families.

Mr. Mayom explained that the Red Cross is filling the gap left by other relief organizations that assist the returnees mainly with food and medicines.

Mr. Mayom called upon local investors to support aid organizations in order to provide efficient aid service to the needy.

The items sent by the Red Cross include mosquito nets, sleeping mats, blankets, jerry cans and hygiene kits.
