A special advisor to the UN Secretary General has called upon the government of the Republic of South Sudan to be vigilant and correct all the ills committed in the old Sudan.

Francis Mading Deng is the special advisor to Bank Ki-moon on genocide prevention. He told Bakhita Radio that the Government of South Sudan needs to create a national framework to respond to the current and future expectation of the people.

He advised the government of the new state to promote equality, and respect human rights and democratic values.

Dr. Deng explained that the government is responsible for managing the country’s diversity by providing equal access to political power and wealth sharing to all groups.

He added that the international community can be of assistance in this process.

Dr. Deng said when a government is not able to answer to the needs of its people, the international community has the right to take collective action.

The UN advisor was speaking during a meeting on rights and prevention of genocide that started today in Juba.
