Residents of three counties of Greater Tonj, Warrap state, are still facing insecurity in their areas despite the independence of South Sudan.

Tonj South County Commissioner Akech Tong said that nine lives were lost and seven others wounded in clashes between the communities of Tonj South and East five days ago.

The commissioner stated that out of nine people killed seven were from Tonj South County and two from East and no cattle were raided.

Mr. Tong said that the two areas have been experiencing cattle raiding for the last two years.

He noted that more than 1,000 cows were raided last year in Tonj South and the raiders remain free.

Mr. Tong said that cattle are the main cause of conflict in the region.

He called for the disarmament of civilians.

Mr. Tong asked the state members of parliament, chiefs and organized forces to move with him together to the Toch to rescue the situation.

The commissioner requested more forces from the state.

He added that the route cause was not clear urging the local population to leave the conflicting area before forces.
