The Democratic Republic of Congo is taking the necessary steps in order to formalize diplomatic ties with the Republic of South Sudan.
DRC’s Foreign Minister, Alexis Mwamba Tambwe arrived in Juba to start six days of talks on a wide range of issues the two countries share.Speaking through a translator, Mr. Tambwe told reporters upon his arrival at Juba Airport that issues such as security, trade and culture, are an important part for his country to establish diplomatic ties with the Republic of South Sudan as quickly as possible.
The Lord’s Resistance Army is one of the key issues on the agenda.
Mr. Tambwe said now that South Sudan is independent, the DRC expects the SPLA to join regional efforts to end activities of the Ugandan rebels.
At the end of their talks, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo will sign a number of bilateral agreements on a wide range of issues including, security, border issues, diplomatic relations and trade.
